Dr. Bernstein received his D.P.M. degree at the California College of Podiatric Medicine and subsequently trained for two years in surgery at hospitals in Monterey and Salinas California and was employed by the Monterey Podiatry Group.
After this phase of his career he relocated to N.Y.C. where he began his practice. He began his affiliation with the Beth Israel Family Practice Residency Program by teaching podiatric skills to the residents for many years.
At the same time, Dr. Bernstein was very involved in community medicine by heading the podiatry division of Health Care For the Homeless, a project which has always been of concern to him on a local and national level . He was instrumental in starting the concept of “shoe drives”, which collected shoes to be distributed to the needy.
He was president of his local podiatry division and continues to be active in his chosen field. Over the years he has lectured extensively, given many talks to running groups and continues to stay active. He has also worked with groups of Orthopedic Surgeons and Chiropractors in order to make these professionals aware of the importance of podiatry.
